Adopting from AdvoCATs!

Felix Domesticus, Adoption CounselorAllow me to introduce myself: I'm Felix Domesticus, AdvoCATs' Adoption Counselor. My job here is simple: Guide you through the adoption process so you're ready to meet with a volunteer, get to know our adoptees, and find the feline companion who's right for you. First we'll meet our adult cats, kittens, and special needs cats who are available. Then we'll talk about the application and interview process. Finally, we'll get you in for one of our adoption fairs, or to our facility in Madison, to meet with us in person and finalize the process.

Meeting our Adoptees | The Application and Interview | Bringing Home Your New Best Friend

First Things First.

Have you ever lived with a cat? It can be a wonderful, rewarding relationship! We get a great home, lots of good food, and all the laps we can find. You get companionship, mental and physical health benefits, and the sheer pleasure of the purr. If you've never lived with a cat, Cats at About.com has many excellent articles for newbies and old hands alike. There's even a Cat Care 101 class!

If you're a "cat person from waaaay back," you think you've seen it all! But, hey, it can't hurt to brush up.

Let's meet our adoptees, shall we?

From May to October is kitten season. Mamma cats have been busy during the winter and we have lots of little tykes for you to meet. Some of the kittens in our Kitten Gallery are too young to be adopted. We will not adopt out kittens younger than 12 weeks. Kittens younger than 10 months must either be adopted in pairs or go to a home that already has resident cats. Here's an explanation of this policy.

Consider an adult cat! Almost all of our adult cats are under 5 years old. We know which ones get along with other cats, which ones may not mind dogs, and which ones need to be the only cat in the house. If you have room in your house and in your heart, consider adopting one of our Special Needs Cats. Some are just senior cats who can no longer live with their people. Some have health issues like allergies or dietary problems.

Before we move on, please take a moment to read some words from one of our adult cats about making the committment for the life of a cat. Sarah was adopted as a kitten and returned as an adult. See her blog entry on committment

Ok, then. Are we ready to look at the application? Go on to the next step
